The Modern Traveler’s Dilemma
Travelers today want to explore beyond just the sights—they crave a deeper connection with the culture and history of each destination. However, busy schedules and overwhelming planning tasks often limit them, leaving little time for research and genuine immersion.
The Challenge of Creating Seamless Exploration
I identified that 70% of travelers prefer an AI-powered tool that simplifies itinerary planning, allowing them to save time and focus on enjoying their trip. Additionally, 83% of travelers expressed that having access to historical and cultural information through an AI guide enhances their experience, making their trip more meaningful. Time Traveler was designed to meet these needs by offering a blend of AI-powered trip planning and cultural storytelling in a single platform.
How satisfied would you be using an AI-powered tool that simplifies itinerary planning and helps you save time to focus more on enjoying your trip?
How important is it for you to have access to historical and cultural information through an AI guide to enhance your travel experience?
Design Process: Style Guide
1. Simplified Icon Design:
Users noted that some icons were confusing, particularly the similarity between the camera and book icons. Based on this feedback, I merged the camera function into the history book feature and simplified the icon list to enhance clarity and streamline navigation.
2. Collaborative Trip Planning:
Feedback indicated that users wanted a collaborative editing feature to plan trips with friends. In response, I added the collaboration function to the plus icon list, making it accessible and intuitive for group trip planning.
3. Streamlined History and Cultural Function:
Users suggested combining the history and cultural functions into a single, interactive chat experience. To address this, I merged the two into a cohesive History Chat feature and updated the icon to an AI spark symbol for a clearer, more engaging interface.
4. Enhanced Preference Section:
Feedback highlighted the need for better organization within the preference list and the inclusion of a customizable option for users. In response, I redesigned the preference section into a structured, list-style layout and introduced a customizable search feature, enabling users to easily add their own preferences and create a more tailored experience.
Through the Time Traveler Project, I learned the importance of user-centered design in balancing efficiency and cultural exploration for busy travelers. Simplifying trip planning improves user adoption by making the process effortless and reducing frustration. Iterating based on feedback allowed me to refine the user flow, creating a smoother, more intuitive experience.
